While the description of our technology is complex – it’s a direct drive, air-core, axial gap, permanent magnet generator – the benefits it delivers are straightforward.  We enable turbine vendors to deliver products that are cost competitive, produce more power, and have higher reliability with lower unscheduled maintenance costs.  How do we do it?

  • More Power Output:  Our unique design delivers superior torque at high efficiencies.  This breakthrough in torque density shatters the torque limitations that constrain iron-core machines and enables ever-increasing rotor diameters that deliver more than 30% more power output than comparably rated systems in low wind speed environments.
  • Lower Cost:  Unlike conventional iron-core direct drive designs, we have no laminated electrical steel in the generator.  In addition to a lightweight generator, this enables a lighter and less costly wind turbine system as the weight savings trickle through the entire support structure.  Our air-core also enables the use of dysprosium-free low temperature grade magnets that are at least 40% less expensive than the higher temperature grades found in most permanent magnet generators.
  • Greater Reliability and Reduced Unscheduled Maintenance Costs:  We estimate our design will enable unscheduled maintenance cost reductions of 50% or more.  We’ve completely eliminated the gearbox, a frequent and expensive source of maintenance and downtime.  In addition, our segmented stator allows for repair and replacement of stator sections up-tower without the need for expensive cranes and extended downtime.
