About the Job
Boulder Wind Power is currently seeking an individual to complement the company’s electromagnetics design and analysis capabilities. We are looking for a candidate with a combination of strong physical analysis skills and experience in employing a wide variety of analytical engineering techniques. This individual will be an integral contributor to multiple parallel design tasks, supporting hardware development relating to both generator and power electronic systems.
Successful candidates must be ‘hands-on’ and be willing to work in an interactive, fast-paced technical environment. The individual will be expected to adapt quickly to the challenges of clean-sheet engineering, and work closely with the entire technical organization in a collaborative manner on cross-functional tasks.
Responsibilities
Specific job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
· Support electromagnetic modeling and design activities from subscale proof-of-concept components through full-scale validation prototypes.
· Support validation efforts with hands-on testing of electromagnetic designs relating to both generator and power electronics hardware.
· Participate in design process including:
o meeting new product introduction toll gates
o design reviews
o optimization of cost / performance of components and subsystems
o identifying technical risks
o developing risk mitigation strategies and plans
Qualifications

The successful candidate must have the following qualifications and attributes:
· Undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or physics
· At least 1 year of analytical modeling experience in a professional environment (or equivalent experience in combination with advanced degree)
· Demonstrated experience in the analysis and specification of permanent magnets and/or soft magnetic materials.
· Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills, particularly relating to technical reports and documentation

In addition, the following qualifications and attributes are strongly desired:
· Experience with finite-element analysis methods, particularly electromagnetic FEA software such as Vector Fields.
· Experience with scripting/programming languages such as Matlab
· Experience with electromagnetic testing methods
· Experience with permanent magnet manufacturing
· Experience in developing and leading model validation programs
· Advanced degrees in relevant fields of study
· Specific experience relating to classical methods of physical system analysis
· Experience with wind turbine design and/or manufacturing practices
· Experience with and understanding of wind turbine standards and/or certification
