About the Job
Boulder Wind Power is currently seeking an individual to help facilitate the company’s mechanical and electrical design, drafting and documentation efforts. We are looking for a candidate with a combination of extensive 3D CAD skills paired with the attention to detail that is required to create and maintain configuration control of solid models, manufacturing drawings and bills of material. This individual will lead the drafting effort including modifying and creating 3D parts, creating fully dimensioned 2D drawings and building/maintaining 3D assemblies. They will also be involved in 3D layout and design of electrical enclosures.
This individual will be an integral contributor to multiple parallel design tasks, supporting hardware design development relating to both generator and power electronic systems. The ideal candidate will have experience creating configuration management and document control procedures and extensive experience using MRP and document change management software tools.
Successful candidates must be ‘hands-on’ and be willing to work in an interactive, fast-paced technical environment. The individual will be expected to adapt quickly to the challenges of clean-sheet engineering, and work closely with the entire technical organization in a collaborative manner on cross-functional tasks.
Responsibilities
Specific job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
· Working with the Engineering team to create and modify 3D models and assemblies
· Creating 2D manufacturing drawings from 3D models per ANSI Y14.5 standards
· Creating and controlling standard CAD formats and libraries including educating the Engineering team about and leading the development of Boulder Wind Power’s drafting standards
· Layout of electrical enclosures including optimizing enclosure design, equipment placement and wire routing while working with the Engineering team to optimize the thermal and acoustic performance
· Lead the drawing production and release process, managing document routing and signoff
· Lead the product configuration control effort for solid models, drawings and bills of material, including being responsible for creating document control procedures and supervising the day to day document release/change control process within the company
· Participate in design process including:
o creating innovative design solutions
o meeting new product introduction process deliverables
o design reviews
o tolerance stack-up analysis
o optimization of cost / performance of components and subsystems
o identifying technical risks
o developing risk mitigation strategies and plans
Qualifications

The successful candidate must have the following qualifications and attributes:
· At least 10 years SolidWorks experience (consideration will be given to other 3D CAD package experience)
· Extensive experience creating and releasing fully dimensioned 2D drawings for manufacture
· Extensive experience applying GD&T best practices
· Experience creating drawings for: machined parts, castings, sheet metal, cabling and assemblies
· Experience creating and maintaining 3D assembly drawings with a large number of parts
· Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills, particularly relating to technical reports and documentation

In addition, the following qualifications and attributes are strongly desired:
· 3DVia or other 3D animation software experience
· Altium or other electronics design software experience
· Experience creating electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
· Experience creating drawings for large cast iron parts and sheet metal parts
· Experience releasing 2D and 3D drawings as password protected PDF’s
· Experience in technical writing
· Experience in related manufacturing fields
